There were some wonderful machines on show at the Inverness Classic Vehicle Rally. I’d only just walked round the corner when I was accosted by Ralph, who I’d only met the day before, to take some photographs of 5 different Triumph Bonniville’s. After what looked like an episode of “Strictly” with bikes, we get them all set up only to find that one of the riders had sneaked off for a wee spot of lunch. We grabbed a stand in from the crowd, who was much better looking anyway.
I had a great time chatting with fellow bikers and taking photographs, where I concentrated on picking out details. Highlight of the day was seeing some very old bikes (97 and 99 years old) and learning how the rear lights were gas operated with the gas being created by adding a few drops of water to some calcium carbide crystals. Apparently, tail-gating wasn’t a problem back then due to the powerful smell of the gas! Ha ha
